Turmeric Sowing

Turmeric sowing starts from 15th May to 15th June. It can be grown can be different types of soils. It thrives best in well-drained sandy or clay loam soil with a ph range of 4.5-7.5 with good organic status. Whole or split mother and fingers rhizomes are used for planting and well-developed healthy and disease-free rhizomes are selected.

Turmeric rhizomes are boiled in boiling tanks and boiling should last for 15-20 minutes. The cooked fingers are dried in the sun by spreading them in 5-7 cm thick layers on a green net. It may take 10-15 days for the rhizomes to become completely dry.

After cooking, turmeric is dried on green nets for 13-15 days. In this, for a day, the veil of turmeric is lifted downwards. The moisture in the turmeric decreases and the turmeric becomes hard. Finally, the turmeric is collected at a place and the small soil is removed from it.

After 15 days after cooking turmeric, with the help of a mechanical drum or a tractor drum, the turmeric is rotated for 1 hour in the drum. In this, the bad waste, soil is removed and the turmeric gets a yellow sheen.
